7M - Borussia Dortmund 4-0 Freiburg: Kovac's side secure Champions League qualification for 11th straight season with dominant win

Borussia Dortmund sealed their place in next season's Champions League with a commanding 4-0 victory over SC Freiburg at Signal Iduna Park on Sunday, April 26, 2026.

The hosts needed only a point to guarantee a top-three finish, but they delivered a statement performance in front of their home crowd. Maximilian Beier opened the scoring in the 8th minute, finishing calmly after a through ball from Ramy Bensebaini. Serhou Guirassy doubled the lead just six minutes later, converting a swift counter-attack.

Bensebaini added a third before halftime, heading home from a corner in the 32nd minute. Freiburg thought they had pulled one back early in the second half when Lukas Kübler found the net, but the goal was correctly ruled out for offside.

Substitute Fábio Silva wrapped up the scoring in the 87th minute, capping a comprehensive victory. The result marks Dortmund's eighth consecutive home win against Freiburg and ensures they cannot finish lower than third in the Bundesliga with three matches remaining.

Eighteen-year-old Samuele Inacio impressed on his first start for the club, showing composure and creativity before being substituted to warm applause in the 73rd minute. Manager Niko Kovac praised his squad's response after recent defeats to Bayer Leverkusen and Hoffenheim.

The victory extends Dortmund's Champions League qualification streak to 11 consecutive seasons. Freiburg remain in mid-table as they continue their push for European contention.
