Manchester United have failed in their appeal against Lisandro Martinez's red card.

The appeal for Martinez's three-match suspension was rejected by the FA as it was deemed to not be an obvious error.

The governing body ruled that the match official did not make a "clear and obvious error" in sending off the Argentine for pulling the hair of Leeds striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin.

He will now miss another two Premier League games against Brentford and Liverpool after being absent for the 1-0 win against Chelsea last weekend.

At the time, interim manager Michael Carrick described the decision as “shocking” and “one of the worst I’ve seen” as the club appealed the red card immediately after the game.

Harry Maguire returns to the side and was spotted in training after picking up an extra ban for angrily protesting his red card in the recent draw with Bournemouth.

However, Ayden Heaven and Noussair Mazraoui were formidable against Chelsea last week and Carrick will likely return to the pair once more against the Bees as they attempt to secure Champions League football for next season.

"I thought Ayden Heaven and Noussair Mazraoui coming in were incredible,” Carrick said.

"Ayden being such a young age and Noussair not really playing centre back in a back four. I have to give the coaching staff a lot of credit on getting the boys ready for that. I thought the boys put a magnificent performance in tonight."
