Kompany turns down World Cup role: I won’t have a family left in Munich next year!
Bayern Munich boss Vincent Kompany has turned down a punditry role at the World Cup as he seeks to rest.
Fresh from securing their 35th Bundesliga title, Bayern Munich return to action this Wednesday night as they face Bayer Leverkusen.
Kompany is aiming for the treble this season and with the title already secured, he turns to the DFB-Pokal and Champions League where the German side are already in the Semi Final where they will face Paris Saint-Germain.
Earlier this month, the Daily Mail reported that several English TV channels had approached Kompany to become a pundit for the World Cup across the US, Mexico and Canada this summer.
This would come straight after the season had ended and Kompany had celebrated at least the league title with his side. In response to the question, the Belgian brushed the idea aside.
"No chance, no chance," Kompany stated before the question about the World Cup was even finished.
"What am I supposed to do, work as a TV pundit on holiday? I won’t have a family left in Munich next year."
Kompany is no stranger to pundit work, helping with the 2022 World Cup as well as Premier League games alongside Roy Keane, Gary Neville, Jamie Carragher and Graeme Souness on Sky Sports thanks to his experience with Manchester City as a player.
However, it is clear that he hopes to dodge more duties over the summer and instead wants to spend precious time with his family which isn’t possible as a full-time manager.
