Konate to stay? Liverpool star admits he is "close to an agreement" after contract talks
Liverpool center-back Ibrahima Konate is set to stay at Anfield as contract talks come to a close.
Konat9's current deal is set to expire at the end of the season, with the Frenchman having been linked with a move to several European clubs, including European rivals Real Madrid.
The Athletic report that Konate has been in talks with the club over an extension since October 2024, but now it looks like discussions are coming to a close in what is a relief.
Speaking to to reporters at the Hill Dickinson Stadium after the 2-1 win over Everton, Konate revealed that he is close to staying.
"My future? To be fair, there are many things people have said, but for a long time we have spoken with the club ,and we are close to an agreement.
"I think everyone wished for that for as long as possible, but we are in a good way. For sure, there is a big chance I’m here next season. This is what I always wanted. I’m waiting to sort the contract, but when everything is sorted, you will have to ask Richard (Hughes) what I said to him in September, November and he’s going to say something to make everyone quiet.
"When everything's going to be sorted, I wish you had a discussion with Richard and asked what I said to him a few months ago, before everyone talked about everything. When he’s going to reply, you will see. I just wish that."
The 26 year old has made 178 appearances for the club since arriving for 336M from RB Leipzig in 2021 and it will be welcome news for fans once he signs on the dotted line, destroying any further transfer rumours.
