7M - Manchester United Face Chelsea As Big Six Record Highlights Premier League Clash
Posted Saturday, April 18, 2026 by 7M Sport

Manchester United visit Chelsea at Stamford Bridge on April 18 for Matchday 33 of the 2025/26 Premier League season. The Red Devils have excelled against elite opposition this term, securing five victories in eight encounters with Big Six rivals, yielding a 62.5 percent win rate.
Currently third in the table with 55 points, United have all but guaranteed their Champions League return for next season, a remarkable turnaround after finishing 15th last campaign. Their strong record against top-tier opponents has been central to this improvement.
United's Big Six campaign began poorly with a 1-0 home defeat to Arsenal and a 3-0 loss at Manchester City within the opening month. However, since those setbacks, they have remained unbeaten against elite opposition, registering five wins and one draw.
The sequence started with a 2-1 home victory over Chelsea in September. United then claimed a vital 2-1 win at Liverpool in October, followed by a 2-2 draw away to Tottenham in November. Under manager Michael Carrick, they added a 2-0 home win against Manchester City in January, a 3-2 triumph at Arsenal's Emirates Stadium, and a 2-0 success over Spurs in Manchester.
Chelsea, meanwhile, have found Big Six fixtures challenging. Their record against elite rivals is second-worst in the group, with only Tottenham faring worse. The Blues have won just two of nine such matches, a 22.22 percent success rate, while drawing two and losing five.
Chelsea's two Big Six victories came consecutively: a 2-1 home win over Liverpool in early October and a narrow away success at Tottenham in November. They subsequently drew 1-1 with Arsenal and Manchester City before being eliminated from the Carabao Cup semi-finals by Arsenal. The Gunners later defeated Chelsea 2-1 in the Premier League, and most recently, Manchester City thrashed them 3-0 at Stamford Bridge on Matchday 32.
Sitting sixth with 48 points, Chelsea urgently need a positive result against United. They have secured only one victory in their last seven league matches, and another loss could severely damage their Champions League qualification hopes.
Big Six head-to-head records in 2025/26 official matches:
- Manchester United: 8 matches, 5 wins (62.5%), 1 draw (12.5%), 2 losses (25%)
- Manchester City: 11 matches, 6 wins (54.55%), 3 draws (27.27%), 2 losses (18.18%)
- Arsenal: 12 matches, 6 wins (50%), 3 draws (25%), 3 losses (25%)
- Chelsea: 9 matches, 2 wins (22.22%), 2 draws (22.22%), 5 losses (55.56%)
- Liverpool: 9 matches, 2 wins (22.22%), 2 draws (22.22%), 5 losses (55.56%)
- Tottenham: 9 matches, 1 win (11.11%), 3 draws (33.33%), 5 losses (55.56%)
