Van Dijk recalls Man City, Roma and Barcelona as Liverpool aim for stunning PSG comeback
Liverpool captain Virgil van Dijk has called for his side to dig deep in their second leg against Paris Saint-Germain.
PSG go into the tie at Anfield with a two-goal lead after winning convincingly in Paris last week as the European champions showed their worth.
Manager Arne Slot has a mammoth task ahead of him as he tries to forge a comeback against a relentless PSG side who won’t hold back against The Reds as they try to finish the job on Tuesday night.
To overcome a 2-0 deficit and progress to the Semi Final seems almost impossible for the Liverpool squad who Van Dijk says will be looking into the past for inspiration, especially in front of the Anfield crowd.
"I have been very lucky to experience those nights where the connection between the fans and the performance has been unbelievable.
"I think of Manchester City, Roma, Barcelona of course, even Real Madrid both this season and last, and I can assure you all that everyone in this dressing room believes we can do something again this evening.
"Yes, the performance in Paris was not good enough, and we must improve in every area if we are to have a chance. Anfield, though, is different, and hopefully we can show that tonight.
"Let's give it everything we have, and hopefully we can write another special chapter in Liverpool's history.”
Liverpool beat Fulham at the weekend, with 17-year-old Rio Ngumoha scoring his first Anfield goal. The teenager coukd inspire Slot’s attack once more this week as he and fellow goalscorer Mohamed Salah aim to show experience and pace in going forward.
