Tottenham captain Cristian Romero OUT for the rest of the season with World Cup doubtful
Tottenham captain Cristian Romero is out for the rest of the season with his hopes of playing in the summer's World Cup in major doubt.
The 27-year-old was in tears as he was forced off in Tottenham’s 1-0 Premier League defeat to Sunderland on Sunday (April 12).
Romero appeared to be pushed by Sunderland ace Brian Brobbey and subsequently collided with his own goalkeeper, Antonin Kinsky.
Spurs’ defeat sees the North London club fall two points behind West Ham in their fight against relegation, with just six games remaining.
According to BBC Sport reporter Sami Mokbel, initial scans have confirmed a partial tear of his medial cruciate ligament.
He is now expected to miss the next eight weeks, meaning he won't play for Tottenham again, and could also miss out on the World Cup.
