Inter Milan edged closer to the Serie A title with a thrilling 4-3 victory over Como at Stadio Giuseppe Sinigaglia on Sunday. The win extends their lead at the summit to nine points over Napoli, putting the Scudetto firmly within reach.
Como started brightly and took a 2-0 lead before halftime through Alex Valle in the 36th minute and Nico Paz just before the break. Inter responded immediately when Nicolò Barella delivered a pinpoint cross for Marcus Thuram to pull one back in first-half stoppage time.
Early in the second half, a costly error from Marc Kempf allowed Thuram to equalize at 2-2 in the 49th minute. Denzel Dumfries then turned the match, heading home from a Hakan Calhanoglu set-piece in the 59th minute and adding a second shortly after, both assists credited to the Turkish midfielder.
A late penalty converted by captain Lucas Da Cunha in the 89th minute sparked a tense finale, but Inter held firm to secure all three points. The result leaves Como two points behind Juventus in the standings.
Midfielder Nicolo Barella urged restraint despite the victory: "Let's wait a little longer. There are more matches, we must continue this run because the others are waiting for our mistake. It is all in our hands." Dumfries, named Man of the Match for his brace, added: "The important thing was to win, I am proud of what we did today."
Head coach Cristian Chivu praised his squad's resilience: "Simple it was not, we knew that. Scoring before half-time was crucial, and it helped us a lot."
Inter now prepare to capitalize on their advantage as the season enters its final stretch.
