Schar facing anxious wait on Newcastle contract plans

Newcastle United boss Eddie Howe admits there's been no decision made over his off contract senior players.

Fabian Schar, currently recovering from a foot injury, plus senior reserve goalkeepers Mark Gillespie and John Ruddy are all coming off contract at the end of the season.

Switzerland defender Schar hasn't been seen since January due to ankle and foot issues.

Asked for an update on the veteran's contract status, Howe said on Friday: 0"Yeah, no update on any other contract situation for us. Lots of unknowns for us going forward.

"So we'll make those decisions when we do."

It's understood Schar's chances of being handed a new deal could hinge on Newcastle qualifying for Europe this season.
