7M - Real Madrid 1-1 Girona: Valverde strike cancelled out by Lemar as title hopes fade at Bernabeu

Real Madrid's LaLiga title challenge suffered a major setback after they were held to a 1-1 draw by Girona at the Santiago Bernabeu on Friday, April 10, 2026. Federico Valverde gave the hosts the advantage in the 51st minute with a powerful 25-yard effort that slipped through goalkeeper Paulo Gazzaniga's grasp. However, Thomas Lemar responded just 11 minutes later, curling a precise left-footed shot from outside the area into the bottom corner to level the score.

Despite dominating possession and registering nine shots on target compared to Girona's two, Real Madrid could not find a late winner. Kylian Mbappe had a penalty appeal dismissed in the closing stages after appearing to be fouled inside the box, adding to the frustration for manager Alvaro Arbeloa and the 70,885 supporters in attendance.

The result extends Real Madrid's winless run to three matches across all competitions, following defeats to Mallorca in LaLiga and Bayern Munich in the Champions League quarter-final first leg. With the draw, Los Blancos remain six points behind league leaders Barcelona, who can extend their advantage to nine points with a win against Espanyol and just seven matchdays remaining.
