Mendes says Fernandes would find it impossible to turn down a Saudi Pro League offer
Former Tottenham and Portugal midfielder Pedro Mendes says Manchester United captain Bruno Fernandes would struggle to turn down the Saudi Pro League.
Fernandes told United reporters in October that he would reassess his future after the World Cup and he has since been linked with a move away from the side, primarily to the Saudi Pro League.
Despite his deal running until 2027, with the option of an additional year, reports claim he will depart this summer as he goes another season without a trophy at 31 years old.
Back in December he said United were keen to cash in on him when Al-Hilal offered 3100m and now, speaking to Thunderpick, Mendes says the midfielder will find it hard to turn down such an offer this year.
“That's a difficult one, that's a question only Bruno can answer. But from my point of view, I would say if there was a chance for him to retire at United, he will do so.
“I'm 100% sure that he would love to win something major at Manchester United, either the Premier League or Champions League. I think he has that desire as well.
“Maybe it will be a frustration for him after all these years, all the things he has done for the club not to have done that. That is something that he will think about.
“If a huge big comes in from Saudi it would be hard to turn down, but it would also be very hard to leave United, he might have some sleepless nights to come.”
Fernandes has eight goals and 16 assists in the league this campaign and remains integral to United’s success. Without him, the club could spiral and their title hopes ahead of the new season may collapse before they begin.
