Dortmund chief Ricken cannot rule out Schlotterbeck sale
Borussia Dortmund chief Lars Ricken admits defender Nico Schlotterbeck could yet leave at the end of the season.
He is currently on a contract that runs until the summer of 2027.
Schlotterbeck has recently been strongly linked with Real Madrid, Liverpool and Manchester United .
BILD recently reported that Dortmund and Schlotterbeck had reached an agreement on a new contract until 2031.
But shortly afterwards, the player came out and denied that he had agreed to an extension. This after sporting director Sebastian Kehl was replaced.
Dortmund CEO Lars Ricken has now provided an update on the situation surrounding Schlotterbeck.
"There are three options. That we extend his contract, that we sell him this summer - or we enter the last year of his contract," he told Sport-Bild.
"We all want to avoid the last option. It wouldn't be good for either us or Nico."
Dortmund does not want to set a deadline.
“It might make sense in some cases, but not in this case. The discussions are respectful and confidential, so we don't want to put any additional pressure on them,” Ricken says, continuing.
"And why should we limit ourselves as long as we stay completely within the time frame we agreed upon?"
