Gallas says Chelsea must find success or they will become toothless like Man Utd

Former Arsenal, Chelsea and Tottenham defender William Gallas has warned Chelsea to find success soon or become like Manchester United.

Chelsea lost four successive games between 11 and 21 March, including an 8-2 aggregate defeat in their Champions League last-16 tie with Paris St-Germain which saw them thrown out of Europe.

The Blues have failed to live up to expectations this season and are set to go trophyless under Liam Rosenior who has been unable to turn the side around after taking over from Enzo Maresca.

Speaking to BOYLE Sports, who offer the latest Champions League odds, Gallas stated that the West London club must bounce back or become like United who have failed to win the title in over a decade.

“Speaking as a former player, especially for a big club like Chelsea, you do need success right away. But now everybody says you need time to rebuild a club, and that’s why so many clubs like United and Arsenal and other clubs are these long-term projects but for me that’s only because of mistakes they made in the past.

“That’s why a club like United, even if they are coming back, are coming back slowly, slowly. Even for me they are not at their best again yet. I remember when I used to play against United. That club was very scary. Even the players on the pitch, it was something when you played against them.

“The last few years have been a disaster for them. With Michael Carrick they are coming back but even when you look at the squad, they are not really a scary team anymore. That is because of mistakes they made in the past. That's why now everybody says you need time. You need to give some time for clubs to come back to their level.”

Chelsea have won 10 of their 19 games since Rosenior took charge in January, losing seven and drawing two as they desperately try to climb back into the Champions League spots and get back to their old selves.
