Carragher brutally honest about Salah leaving Liverpool: I don't think he is irreplaceable
Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher has spoken on Mohamed Salah leaving the club this summer.
With Salah already confirming he will leave Liverpool at the end of the 2025/26 campaign, the Premier League champions will already be scouting his replacement.
Salah, who is the Reds' third-highest goalscorer of all time with 255, will be a huge loss to the side who have already been linked with RB Leipzig’s Yan Diomande and Newcastle United Anthony Gordon.
However, as the club seek to find the quality needed to fill the gap, Carragher has spoken to the Liverpool Echo about how the Egyptian isn’t irreplaceable.
"I never go along with it when someone says they are irreplaceable. Go through the players we've had over the years at this football club and for me, whether you think he is a right-winger or not, he is a goalscorer, that is what he is.
"And a few years before Mo Salah, we had Luis Suarez. You know, Michael Owen, Robbie Fowler, you go back on the list and I am not saying it will be easy to replace him, of course, but you might get a different type of right-winger, someone who is creating for the central strikers.
"So I don't think he is irreplaceable and I don't think it is the case either that Liverpool need to go and sign a superstar as such. Mo Salah wasn't a superstar when we signed him. He'd come and wasn't sure he was going to play."
"We bought superstars last summer, didn't we? And it hasn't quite worked out as of yet. Buy the right player for the right reasons, that is what Liverpool need to get back to."
Diomande has registered 11 goals and eight assists in all competitions this term and could be the perfect fit for a Liverpool side that have lacked pace in recent years due to Salah’s slow decline.
Liverpool have already signed 20-year-old centre-back J9r9my Jacquet from Rennes but a winger is now a priority for Arne Slot who must move quick.
