Slot to be sacked? Liverpool squad hold emergency meeting as season goes from bad to worse

Liverpool boss Arne Slot is under serious pressure this week as his squad hold an emergency meeting.

Saturday’s 4-0 FA Cup thrashing against Manchester City means Liverpool’s only hope of silverware this season is in the Champions League where they next face champions Paris Saint-Germain.

It has been a disastrous season for the Premier League champions as fans call for Slot to be sacked after Liverpool's 15th loss across all competitions this term, marking their worst campaign since suffering 18 defeats under Brendan Rodgers during the 2014-15 season.

The defeat to City is said to be breaking point for the Liverpool side who, according to The Sun and The Express, held an emergency meeting once the game had concluded.

The Reds currently occupy fifth position in the Premier League, are out of both domestic cups and stand very little chance of beating PSG on Wednesday night in a loss that could seal Slot’s fate.

Reports claim the meeting was led by captain Virgil van Dijk who said his side “have a responsibility, not only to ourselves but especially to the fans” once their fate in the FA Cup was sealed.

He also revealed that the meeting took place, a worrying sign for Slot as the players know how badly they have failed this season after splashing over 3400M on the squad last summer.

"We spoke about it in the dressing room but it’s on us.”

The pressure has been mounting on Slot for some time and if they are knocked out of the Champions League and also find themseleves outside the top 4 in the Premier League, the Dutchman is likely to be let go.
