"This was the target" - Tonali's agent opens up on Newcastle exit rumours

Beppe Riso, agent of Newcastle midfielder Sandro Tonali, has confirmed other Premier League clubs are interested in signing him.

With qualification for next season’s Champions League looking unlikely, it’s been reported that Tonali, 25, is likely to leave Newcastle in the summer.

The midfielder has been heavily linked with Arsenal, Man United, and Man City since the turn of the year, along with clubs back in Italy.

Speaking on Calcio&Finanza, Riso has now confirmed those reports that Tonali is on the shortlists of several top club.

“He’s a champion; first and foremost, at a human level, and, therefore, on the pitch too,” he said.

“The idea was to bring Sandro to a high level; it was intriguing. It turned out to be a winning choice even after what happened afterwards (the betting ban).

“Newcastle fans and the club behaved incredibly with Sandro, supporting him every time.”

When asked about links to other Premier League clubs, he said: “Exactly, this was the target. Obviously, he’s on their target. He’s doing really well.

“This was the target and the vision when we made the decision (to move to Newcastle). Make Sandro become a stellar player. The most valuable Italian player.”
