Belgium produced a commanding second-half performance to defeat USA 5-2 in an international friendly at Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta on March 28 2026. The visitors overcame an early deficit after Weston McKennie gave the hosts the lead in the 39th minute. Belgium responded immediately before halftime when Zeno Debast capitalized on a Matt Turner error to level the score.
The second half belonged to Rudi Garcias side. Amadou Onana put Belgium ahead with a composed finish, and Charles De Ketelaere converted a penalty following a Tim Ream handball to extend the advantage. Substitute Dodi Lukebakio then stole the show, scoring twice in quick succession after coming off the bench. His first was a curling effort into the far corner, and his second a powerful strike that left the goalkeeper with no chance. Patrick Agyemang scored a late consolation goal for Mauricio Pochettinos United States.
The result marked the heaviest defeat for the USMNT in a match where they took the lead since an 8-1 loss to England in 1959. Belgium now look ahead to their next preparations while USA must regroup before the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
