Indonesia head coach John Herdman celebrated a positive first impression at Stadion Utama Gelora Bung Karno in Jakarta following his managerial debut. The English born tactician led the Garuda squad to a dominant four nil win against St Kitts and Nevis in the FIFA Series tournament on Friday March 27 2026.

The victory secured Indonesia a place in the tournament final against Bulgaria scheduled for Monday March 30. Herdman expressed enthusiasm about building momentum ahead of the championship match while emphasizing the importance of connecting the archipelago nation through football.
During his post match press conference Herdman highlighted the unique stadium atmosphere noting the powerful national anthem and unprecedented fan engagement. He described the post game connection with supporters as a special moment in his career and called on fans to remain supportive during challenging periods.
The win came despite the absence of several regular players including creative talents Marselino Ferdinan and Miliano Jonathan. Herdman acknowledged a slight reduction in attacking fluidity but praised Kevin Diks for an outstanding professional performance in an advanced wide role.
The fifty year old coach stressed that every player must earn their position through consistent performances. He welcomed future competition for starting spots and encouraged absent first choice players to fight for recall while asking supporters to stay united behind the team.
