Liverpool boss Arne Slot is on the verge of being sacked as Xabi Alonso waits to step in.

Liverpool have failed to win their last three Premier League games and suffered their 10th league defeat of the season against Brighton in a 2-1 defeat last weekend.

Slot, 47, is under increasing pressure at Anfield as the club continues to stumble and fall in what has been a dire season so far.

Now, as reported by BILD journalist Axel Hesse, the details of Slot’s future have now been revealed as the Dutchman desperately tries to turn the team around.

The report states that Slot was “probably only saved” by the weakness of the clubs around Liverpool competing for the Champions League spots such as Chelsea who continue to drop points.

It also reveals that “the successor has already been determined” to be former Bayer Leverkusen boss Xabi Alonso who is a big fan of the side where he used to be a midfielder two decades ago.

Having been sacked by Real Madrid earlier this year, Alonso is free to step in at any time.

Sporting director Richard Hughes oversaw 3450m worth of spending last summer but Hesse states that “Slot has not succeeded in building a functioning team out of the many stars” and the board are ready to bring in Alonso after keeping in close contact as the story develops.
