Manchester United are keen to lock down Kobbie Mainoo as they open contract talks.

The Red Devils sit third in the Premier League table and are on their way to secure Champions League football under interim manager Michael Carrick who has picked up 23 points from 30 available with and just one defeat in 10 matches.

United have been incredible under Carrick and as they charge into Europe’s elite competition, the club are keen to tie down Mainoo as reported by Fabrizio Romano as they look towards the future.

“Manchester United are closing in on new deal for Kobbie Mainoo after talks reported since January — valid until June 2031.

“New deal for Kobbie was a priority since he returned key player under Carrick.

“Final details needed, not done yet but close + #MUFC optimistic.”

Midfield is expected to be a key focus for United as they lose Casemiro at the end of the current season when his contract expires.

Mainoo has stepped up under Carrick who clearly wants to see the England international stay after he was recently called up to the England side by former Chelsea boss Thomas Tuchel.

His current contract was due to end next summer and if he is tied down to a deal until 2031, United fans will be delighted after a spell of fine form.
