Barcelona president Laporta: Xavi wanted to sell TEN players
Barcelona president Joan Laporta insists sacking Xavi was no hair-trigger decision.
After rejecting Xavi's resignation two seasons ago, Laporta dumped the then Barca coach just weeks later.
Speaking to Cataluyna Radio this morning, Laporta recalled: “No. It wasn't about impulse. I told him I needed more experience, that I wasn't sure, and he told me he'd gained that experience in Qatar.
"In the end, I believed in him, but it didn't quite work out. The sushi incident was just a funny story. His words changed things. I asked him if he trusted the team, and he said 100%. I was surprised because that wasn't what he'd been telling me all season.
"And then, two weeks later, he says we won't be competitive for another two years, and (sporting director) Deco told me he wanted to replace ten players.”
