Real Madrid give Mbappe injury update before Benfica clash
Real Madrid have provided an injury update on star striker Kylian Mbappe ahead of Tuesday’s Champions League playoff against Benfica.
The sides meet weeks after Benfica’s 4-2 group-stage victory over Los Blancos, in which Mbappe scored both goals for Madrid.
Real Madrid manger Alvaro Arbeloa confirmed the forward missed the recent Real Sociedad match as a precaution due to minor discomfort, with the club monitoring his fitness ahead of the crucial clash to secure a spot in the last 16.
"Mbappe is doing very well. He has been dealing with small discomfort for some time and has been making efforts to play, so today we didn’t want to take risks ahead of Tuesday’s match," he said after the win over La Real.
Mbappe trained on Sunday despite being part of Real Madrid’s matchday squad on Saturday, while Vinicius Junior and Federico Valverde, who both started in the Basque side victory, focused on recovery work.
