7M - Guardiola Defends Immigrants After Ratcliffe Comments

Pep Guardiola has voiced that blaming immigrants for a country's issues is unjust, responding to Sir Jim Ratcliffe's controversial remark that the UK is being "colonised by immigrants." Ratcliffe's comments, made during a Sky News interview, have sparked criticism, including from within football. He later expressed regret for offending individuals in the UK and Europe.

Guardiola commented, "I have a huge appreciation for Sir Jim, but I'm not going to comment on his initial words because he clarified what he meant." He emphasized that viewing immigrants as the cause of a country's problems is profoundly misguided. "We treat immigrants as the problem. That is a big issue; it's not their fault," he said, underlining that no one controls where they are born.

He reflected on his own experiences migrating from Barcelona to various countries as a player and manager, recognizing the benefits of exposure to diverse cultures. "Most people leave their countries due to issues, not out of choice. Embracing other cultures leads to a better society," he stated.

Guardiola praised the multicultural environment of Manchester City's dressing room, saying, "How nice it is to have Christian people and Muslims who respect each other and work together." He pointed out that societal problems often stem from leadership rather than the populace.

City is set to face Salford City in the FA Cup fourth round on Saturday, though there are concerns over Erling Haaland's fitness. Guardiola noted, "He's not 100% but we will see later how he feels."

In addition, Rodri has been charged with misconduct by the Football Association for questioning referee Robert Jones' neutrality after a controversial goal during City's 2-2 draw against Tottenham. The FA stated that Rodri's comments implied bias against the match officials, and he has until February 18 to respond.
