Rashford to stay at Barcelona? Presidential elections could help Man Utd star make move
Manchester United loanee Marcus Rashford could make his move to Barcelona permanent this summer.
Rashford lost his place under previous United manager Ruben Amorim and was thrown into the “bomb squad” alongside the likes of Jadon Sancho and Alejandro Garnacho who were also forced out of the club.
The Englishman has reached double figures for goals and assists for the La Liga giants since departing on loan at the start of the season and has thrived under manager Hansi Flick who adores the 28-year-old.
Now, with fans about to vote in a presidential poll, Rashford’s future could be heavily affected. Current president Joan Laporta is a huge fan of Rashford and is likely to lean towards signing him in the summer.
Barca can acquire the 28-year-old forward for €30M, a small fee for a forward who has bagged 10 goals and contributed 13 assists across 34 outings.
The Times reports that Laporta’s current mandate is “more pragmatic and will seek re-election less as a bold idealist and more as a deft firefighter”
The report also states that as Rashford is available for such a low fee, it will help his chance of being re elected: “all these aspects of the Rashford package look good on Laporta’s election manifesto”.
His rival in the election Victor Font, has advised supporters to “decide if we want to carry on with a 1980s-style system based around a single individual or choose a pluralist project that brings in the best in the world in every area to maintain sporting success and protect the club’s future”.
Flick and Laporta are keen on keeping Rashford but the opinion of Font is unknown. However, after such an incredible start for the Spanish side, it is likely that Rashford will be a top priority for the club who, despite their financial restraints, could bring in the England star.
