Arsenal reportedly made a last minute attempt to sign Bayern Munich midfielder Leon Goretzka in the January transfer window.

The 31-year-old recently announced that he will leave the German giants once his contract expires at the end of the season after eight years with the club.

Following Mikel Merino’s season-ending injury, it was heavily reported that Arsenal were on the lookout for a replacement should a suitable candidate emerge.

According to the Daily Mail, Mikel Arteta’s side made a late move to sign Goretzka, but it didn’t materialise.

Arsenal’s interest in the midfielder could be reignited once he becomes a free agent.
