Atletico Madrid spy new chance for Tottenham defender Romero

Atletico Madrid are ready to try again for Tottenham captain Cristian Romero.

Atletico made an attempt for the Argentina international last summer, but were rebuffed by Spurs.

However, after Romero furious outburst this week, Atletico spy a new chance to prise away the stopper, says The Sun.

The defender penned a new deal in August after Atletico's attempt, but things could have drastically changed after Romero slammed the top brass for a poor winter transfer window.

Speaking after their draw with Manchester City, Romero posted to social media: "Great effort from all my teammates yesterday, they were incredible.

"I wanted to be available to help them even though I wasn't feeling well, especially since we only had 11 players available - unbelievable but true and disgraceful.

"We'll keep showing up and taking responsibility to turn this around, working hard and staying together. All that's left is to thank all of you for being there and for always supporting us, the fans."

Romero also fumed in January after defeat to Bournemouth, hitting out at “other people” – viewed as the club's top brass – for not speaking publicly, and that when they do, they “tell a few lies”.
