A tribunal has determined that Liverpool must pay a minimum of £2.8 million to Chelsea for winger Rio Ngumoha.

Liverpool to Compensate Chelsea Over Ngumoha Transfer

The 17-year-old left Chelsea's academy in September 2024 to join the Reds, signing his first professional contract a year later. The Professional Football Compensation Committee (PFCC) has decided the amount owed to Chelsea for Ngumoha's training and development during his time at the club.

The initial fee of £2.8 million is fixed but may increase through add-ons if specific conditions are fulfilled. Additionally, Chelsea will receive 20% of any profit if Liverpool sells Ngumoha in the future.

So far, the teenager has made 13 appearances for Arne Slot's side this season, notably scoring a last-minute winner against Newcastle on his Premier League debut in August. At just 16 years and 361 days, this goal made him Liverpool's youngest-ever goalscorer.

Ngumoha is also the youngest player to start a match for Liverpool, debuting at 16 years and 135 days during a 4-0 victory over Accrington in the FA Cup in January 2025.

The England Under-19 international was viewed as the best player in his age group at Chelsea but chose to move to Liverpool for a clearer pathway to first-team opportunities, despite Chelsea's attempts to secure his future with various contract offers.

Liverpool has not disclosed the duration of Ngumoha's first professional contract.
