Man Utd launched failed bid for Jacquet as Liverpool snap up talented French defender
Liverpool are set to sign Rennes defender Jeremy Jacquet this week as the likes of Manchester United and Chelsea miss out.
The Reds have agreed a 360M deal with Rennes for the signing of French wonderkid Jacquet who will reportedly take his medical today before joining the club in the summer transfer window.
At 20 years old, Jacquet one of the most sought-after young talents in European football despite never featuring for France or in the Champions League so far in his career.
Jacquet was linked with Chelsea throughout January, but it has now been revealed that Premier League rivals Manchester United also launched a bid, according to Sky Sports Deutschland.
The report states that the bid was “unsuccessful” as Liverpool had already agreed a deal as the Premier League champions took no time in snapping him up.
The France under-21 international has played for Rennes 18 times this season and has represented his country at youth level for a number of years.
With Ibrahima Konate’s contract running down and Virgil van Dijk set to turn 35 in July, Liverpool desperately needed reinforcements in defence and Jacquet looks to do just that at the end of the season.
He will become the second central defender to move to Anfield from Europe after Giovanni Leoni signed from Parma for an initial 326M last year.
