7M - Casemiro Exit Stands: Why Man Utd Won't Reverse Decision Despite Midfielder's Strong Form
Posted Tuesday, February 03, 2026 by 7M Sport

Manchester United midfielder Casemiro is currently in his finest spell of form since joining the club for 70 million pounds in 2022. This has led to questions from fans as to why the club is prepared to let him depart.
The Brazilian international, who turns 34 this month, delivered a vintage performance in United's dramatic win over Fulham on Sunday. He scored the opening goal with a header and later provided an exquisite no-look pass to assist Matheus Cunha. Sky Sports pundits Jamie Carragher described him as a "completely different player," while Paul Merson praised his influence alongside Kobbie Mainoo and Bruno Fernandes during the team's recent resurgence under manager Michael Carrick.
Despite starting all three matches under Carrick, Casemiro confirmed his impending departure last month, a decision made while Ruben Amorim was still in charge. Although United held an option to extend his contract by 12 months, the club's plans for a midfield rebuild this summer mean Casemiro will be allowed to leave.
Sky Sports News' Rob Dorsett explained the club's rationale amid calls from supporters to reconsider.
"Short-term thinking has caused problems in the past"
"Manchester United are adamant about avoiding a short-term approach to signings and managerial appointments," Dorsett stated. "That strategy has previously led the club into difficulty, resulting in numerous high-profile players on substantial wages who no longer fit the project."
"Casemiro is in outstanding form right now—he was the man of the match against Fulham. I understand why many fans are asking, 'We're searching for a midfielder, yet we're willing to let Casemiro go?'"
"He turns 34 this month, is among the club's highest earners at £325,000 per week, and United recognize this situation cannot continue indefinitely. While he is performing exceptionally at the moment, the club must maintain a longer-term vision."
"Casemiro will leave in the summer. The club has already produced a farewell tribute video, and there will be no reversal of this decision."
