Carragher: "Casemiro’s Football Isn’t Gone"

Former Liverpool defender-turned-pundit Jamie Carragher has dramatically revised his stance on Manchester United midfielder Casemiro, admitting "the football hasn't left him" following the Brazilian's standout display in United's thrilling 3-2 win over Fulham.

The about-face comes months after Carragher openly questioned Casemiro's suitability for Premier League football. Back in May 2024, after United's heavy defeat at Crystal Palace, he claimed the midfielder's "legs were gone" and suggested it was time to step away from top-level football—criticism that now looks misplaced.

Carragher:

Speaking to Sky Sports post-match on Sunday, Carragher conceded his earlier doubts were unfounded: "It's fair to say the football hasn't left him. Looking at what he's produced this season in the Premier League—not just against Fulham at home, but last week at Arsenal and against Man City here—he's the elite midfielder United thought they were signing."

With a humorous dig at himself, Carragher added: "Casemiro's well within his rights to say, 'Leave punditry before punditry leaves you!' He could definitely fire that back. Credit to him—he looks a completely different player, physically too. Before, he seemed like an old man at the end of his career, but now he's ultra-professional and looks revitalised."

The 33-year-old was instrumental in United's victory, dominating midfield, opening the scoring in the 19th minute, and assisting Matheus Cunha's second goal. Fulham fought back with a Raul Jimenez penalty and a stoppage-time equaliser, but substitute Benjamin Sesko's late winner sealed the 3-2 triumph at Old Trafford.

The result extends interim manager Michael Carrick's winning start, lifting United to 4th in the Premier League—one point clear of 5th-placed Chelsea. Casemiro, who confirmed in January he will leave Old Trafford at the end of the season, has started all three games under Carrick, playing a key role in United's Champions League push and forcing Carragher's rare public rethink.
