7M - Cunha Responds With Just Three Words as Ban Fears Grow After Arsenal Incident
Posted Tuesday, January 27, 2026 by 7M Sport
Matheus Cunha scored a stunning 87th-minute winner off the bench as Manchester United secured a 3-2 victory over Arsenal at the Emirates—their first Premier League win at the venue in eight years. After curling a precise strike past David Raya to break a 2-2 deadlock, Cunha appeared to shout profanity directly into a broadcast camera during his celebration, prompting an on-air apology from Sky Sports commentator Peter Drury.

The Brazilian later posted three words on Instagram alongside celebration photos: "The freaking biggest." While the exact phrase used on camera remains unconfirmed, such conduct falls under FA guidelines as "clear and deliberate" misconduct that can bring the game into disrepute. Retroactive disciplinary action is possible even if match officials did not hear the language, with broadcast footage serving as evidence. Wayne Rooney received a two-match ban in 2011 for a similar offense after scoring against West Ham.
United had trailed early after a Lisandro Martinez own goal, but Bryan Mbeumo and Patrick Dorgu struck to put the visitors ahead 2-1. Mikel Merino equalized for the league leaders from a corner before Cunha's late intervention. The goal marked his fifth for United this season.
Interim manager Michael Carrick praised Cunha's impact without addressing the language incident: "He's had a real big impact... Two huge moments and he totally deserves that winning goal for how he's applied himself all week."
