Bournemouth beat Liverpool after a late goal to complete a 3-2 win.
In a stunning turn of events at the Vitality Stadium, Amine Adli pounced in the fifth minute of added time to hand Bournemouth a dramatic 3-2 win over Liverpool, dealing another blow to the Reds' faltering Premier League title defense.
Liverpool had appeared poised to extend their run of draws to five in a row after goals from Virgil van Dijk and Dominik Szoboszlai canceled out first-half strikes from Evanilson and Alex Jimenez. However, with virtually the final action of a rain-drenched, high-intensity clash, Bournemouth winger Adli scrambled home the decisive goal, igniting jubilant scenes among the home supporters.
The result leaves Liverpool fourth in the table—14 points behind league leaders Arsenal—and at risk of dropping out of the Champions League qualification spots, depending on the outcomes of Manchester United's and Chelsea's matches on Sunday. Meanwhile, Bournemouth climb to 13th place, now sitting 10 points clear of the relegation zone.
Manager Arne Slot made one change to the side that secured a 3-0 Champions League victory in Marseille on Wednesday evening, with Cody Gakpo coming in for Hugo Ekitike. Bournemouth, meanwhile, saw captain Adam Smith return in place of the injured Marcus Tavernier.
Despite arriving in Dorset on a 13-match unbeaten streak across all competitions, Liverpool have now gone four Premier League games in 2026 without a win. The visitors started brightly but were quickly undone by clinical finishing from the hosts.
The opening goal came in the 27th minute after Van Dijk misjudged a long ball from Bournemouth center-back Marcos Senesi. Alex Scott collected the loose ball on the right and cut it back for Evanilson, who fired home his fifth league goal of the season. The goal was compounded by injury for Liverpool, as defender Joe Gomez was forced off following a collision with goalkeeper Alisson Becker while attempting to block the shot.
Before substitute Wataru Endo could even enter the pitch, Bournemouth exploited their temporary numerical advantage. In the 33rd minute, James Hill split Liverpool's defense with a precise through ball. Right winger Jimenez—kept onside by Van Dijk—raced past former Cherries left-back Milos Kerkez and slotted a first-time finish through Alisson's legs to double the lead.
Liverpool responded with half-chances: Florian Wirtz dragged a shot wide, and Mohamed Salah scuffed a volley straight at Bournemouth goalkeeper Djordje Petrovic. Van Dijk partially redeemed himself just before halftime, redirecting a Szoboszlai corner past Petrovic with the back of his head to make it 2-1.
At the break, Andy Robertson—recently linked with a January transfer—replaced Kerkez, and the second half unfolded largely in Bournemouth's half. Yet Liverpool struggled to create clear opportunities despite sustained pressure.
The introduction of Ekitike and Curtis Jones injected urgency into the Reds' attack. Ryan Gravenberch tested the limits with a powerful effort from the edge of the box that flew wide, while Bournemouth remained dangerous on the counter.
With ten minutes remaining, Liverpool finally drew level. Substitute Rio Ngumoha was fouled just outside the penalty area, and Salah laid the resulting free kick off for Szoboszlai, who lashed it into the bottom-right corner.
In the closing stages, Alisson denied Ryan Christie with a sharp save, and Evanilson missed a golden opportunity to restore Bournemouth's lead, dragging his shot wide when clean through on goal. At the other end, Petrovic produced a spectacular fingertip stop to deny Wirtz—a save that would prove pivotal.
Moments later, chaos ensued in Liverpool's box following a long throw-in by James Hill. Amid the scramble, Adli forced the ball over the line to seal a last-gasp victory for the Cherries and deliver yet another setback to Liverpool's 2025–26 campaign.
