7M - Chelsea Transfer Update: Romano Clarifies Palmer Stance and Douglas Luiz Pursuit

Transfer expert Fabrizio Romano has provided a "very clear" update regarding Cole Palmer's future at Stamford Bridge, while also detailing the specific conditions under which the Blues would pursue a deal for Douglas Luiz.

Cole Palmer Labeled "Untouchable" Amid Manchester Links
Despite sensational reports suggesting Cole Palmer might submit a transfer request to force a move to Manchester United, Romano has dismissed the speculation. Since his £42.5m arrival from Manchester City, Palmer has exceeded all expectations, establishing himself as an elite Premier League talent.
"Chelsea's position is very clear; they view Palmer as a cornerstone of their long-term project," Romano stated. This sentiment was echoed by new manager Liam Rosenior, who confirmed in a recent press conference that he has held several positive discussions with the player. Journalist Ben Jacobs further reinforced this, noting that Chelsea will refuse to entertain any offers for Palmer, who is currently considered "untouchable" by the club hierarchy.
Douglas Luiz: Loan Deal Hinges on Purchase Conditions
In addition to the Palmer update, Chelsea are exploring a surprise move for Brazil international Douglas Luiz. Currently on a season-long loan at Nottingham Forest from Juventus, the 27-year-old is open to a move to West London. However, Chelsea's interest remains strictly limited to a short-term arrangement.
According to Romano, the Blues are "happy to proceed" with a loan for the remainder of the season only if Juventus agrees to exclude any mandatory "obligation to buy" clauses. While Luiz's previous deal with Forest included conditions that could force a permanent transfer, Chelsea are reportedly insistent on a straightforward loan or an extremely complex set of conditions that would not bind them to a summer purchase.
Negotiations are ongoing with the player's representative, Giuliano Bertolucci, but Chelsea are prepared to walk away from the table if the financial terms regarding a permanent stay are not aligned with their current strategy.
