Edin Dzeko has posted a farewell to Fiorentina fans after today's departure.

The veteran striker has left Fiorentina for Schalke 04 today, joining on a free transfer and signing to the end of the season.

Now 39, Dzeko posted to social media: "It's true, things didn't go the way we all wanted, it happens in football: but this doesn't affect the affection and gratitude I have and will have towards Fiorentina, Florence and the Viola fans.

"In these months I've had the opportunity to share my daily life with wonderful guys, to whom I wish the best: I'm sure they will be able to continue this season in the best possible way, as they are already demonstrating.

"Good luck to the entire club, thanks to everyone who works behind the scenes and a special thought for the Commisso family."
