Jurgen Klopp shuts down Real Madrid rumours for good: I don’t want to be somewhere else!
Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has responded once again to the links to the Real Madrid job.
Following his Liverpool exit in 2024, Klopp has stepped away from the touchline and has become Red Bull’s Head of Global Soccer where he oversees operations for clubs such as RB Leipzig, Red Bull Salzburg, New York Red Bulls and Red Bull Bragantino.
After Xabi Alonso and Real Madrid parted ways last week, the German was tipped to make a shock return to the dugout and was said to be at the top of the list of replacements among the board at the Spanish giants.
However, speaking this week, Klopp against reiterated that he is happy exactly where he is and has no intention of making his way to the Spanish capital.
"I know I can coach a football team, but that doesn’t mean I have to do it until my last day," he explained.
"I wanted to do something different. Red Bull gave me an opportunity to find a role which we have been defining together, step by step. I’m in a place as a person where I’m completely at peace with where I am. I don’t want to be somewhere else."
With another former Red, Alvaro Arbeloa, selected to take over from Alonso for the rest of the season, it seems unlikely that Klopp will step in unless he is sacked.
Speaking on the Diary of a CEO podcast back in October, Klopp fuelled speculation about a potential return, the German said he would not rule out a return to a team outside England:
"I said I will never coach a different team in England so that means, if (I did return), then it's Liverpool. So, yeah, theoretically it is possible."
