Man City dealt devastating blow as Josko Gvardiol set to undergo surgery

Man City defender Josko Gvardiol looks set for a lengthy spell on the sidelines as he will undergo surgery on the injury picked up in the 1-1 draw with Chelsea on Sunday (January 4).

Gvardiol, 23, had to be helped off the pitch by Chelsea captain Reece James and a member of Man City’s medical team 51 minutes into the game.

Man City have now confirmed that the centre back is now set to undergo surgery on a fractured tibia (shinbone) in his right leg.

It remains to be seen exactly how long Gvardiol will be out of action, with the club waiting until after the procedure before announcing a time frame.

Pep Guardiola also lost Ruben Dias in the draw with Chelsea, although the Portugal international’s injury is reportedly less severe.

The club decided to recall youngster Max Alleyne from his loan at Watford on Monday (January 5), with Nathan Ake and Abdukodir Khusanov their only fit centre backs for the game against Brighton.
