Ekitike opens up on Isak injury boosting his chances
Liverpool striker Hugo Ekitike has admitted it is “difficult” knowing his run of regular games has come as a result of Alexander Isak’s serious injury.
The 3125 million signing from Newcastle suffered a leg fracture that required surgery after a challenge against Tottenham, ruling him out long term.
The Frenchman, who joined from Eintracht Frankfurt in the summer, has stepped in as Reds’ first-choice No.9, scoring 11 goals in all competitions and is now set to lead the line for the remainder of the season.
"Obviously that kind of thing happened and I was very sorry for him because it's not funny when you come to a new club and get injured with that kind of injury – it's difficult,” Ekitike told the club website.
“But for me, I try to do my job. The coach puts me on the pitch and I'll show him and show the fans that I can help the team. It doesn't matter if I score, if I give assists, the most important (thing) for me is to win."
Liverpool face Fulham on Sunday before turning their attention to a heavyweight clash with Arsenal next week.
