Enzo Maresca, recently departed from Stamford Bridge, reportedly disclosed to the Chelsea hierarchy on two separate occasions before his New Year's Day firing that he had been in discussions with Manchester City representatives about replacing Pep Guardiola at the Etihad.

Per a report from The Athletic: "Insiders familiar with the situation suggest Maresca notified Chelsea—first in late October and once more in mid-December—that he was in contact with City-linked figures regarding his potential to take over as manager should the role become available."
