Real Madrid striker Kylian Mbappe has been diagnosed with a sprain in his left knee as the club monitor him closely.

As reported by L'9quipe, the Frenchman is set to have a spell on the sidelines ahead of a clash against Real Betis and a trip to Riyadh, Saudi Arabia, in the Spanish Super Cup semi-final against Atletico Madrid.

Now, as confirmed by the club themselves, it is looking increasingly likely that the Frenchman may miss both games in a massive blow for manager Xabi Alonso.

“Following tests carried out today by the Real Madrid Medical Services on our player Kylian Mbapp9, he has been diagnosed with a sprain in his left knee. His progress will be monitored.”

Mbapp9 had continued to play without suspecting the injury was this serious, which has led to further complications that many believe the medical staff should have picked up and warned about.

Reports claim that the January 25th game against Villarreal would be a possible return date for 27-year-old who has scored 29 goals in 24 appearances this season.
