Man Utd hold talks with former Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves as January move brews

Ruben Neves has been linked with Manchester United in recent weeks as the club plan to steal him away from Al-Hilal.

United have reportedly made an “informal call” regarding former Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves according to journalist Ben Jacobs as several sides monitor his situation.

Manager Ruben Amorim was linked with a move for the 28-year-old in recent weeks alongside plans to update his squad with a new midfielder next year which could possibly challenge for the title.

Neves currently plays for Al-Hilal who currently sit third in the league, having picked up 26 points this season so far. The midfielder has made 114 appearances for the side, scoring 14 times.

Reports claim that Neves is yet to respond to talks, suggesting that he had no interest in making a move back to the English top flight.

Neves joined Al-Hilal in the summer of 2023 after opting to leave Molineux and a return may be awkward for the veteran who will have established his family abroad for the past 3 years.

He is out of contract next summer and is expected to depart Saudi Arabia, which could trigger a summer move from United, who clearly see him as an upgrade on their current setup.

The Portuguese midfielder spent six years with Wolves and made 253 appearances, including 177 in the Premier League, scoring 30 goals and providing 13 assists.

There is no doubt that Neves is a proven Premier League midfielder and if United can snag him for free it would be a good piece of business.
