Arteta admits Arsenal "have to be actively looking" for new players in January

Arsenal boss Mikel Arteta has revealed that he believes the club must add reinforcements in the January transfer window.

Arsenal are top of the Premier League after 18 games which have left Arteta’s side in tatters due to constant injuries to the likes of Gabriel, William Saliba Bukayo Saka, Viktor Gyokeres and Martin Odegaard.

When asked in his latest press conference if Arsenal would be prepared to let players depart, either on loan or on a permanent basis, Arteta said that he will be aiming to bring players in.

“We will be actively looking to strengthen the squad in January”.

“Depending on the availability of certain players, the window is there, I mean, we're Arsenal, and we have to be looking at it”.

“Our job is to be very prepared because something can happen”.

After spending in excess of 3250m on new arrivals in the summer, it is clear that Arteta is not afraid to splash the cash once more if it means building a side worthy of lifting the title in over two decades.

AC Milan’s 20-year-old left-back Davide Bartesaghi is reportedly a target, whilst Eintracht Frankfurt forward Jean-Matteo Bahoya and Elche midfielder Rodrigo Mendoza have also been linked.

Before looking towards the January window, Arsenal round off 2025 with a title clash with Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium on Tuesday night. Three points will be imperative as Manchester City sit just a few points behind.
