Haaland: I want to win trophies with Man City in '26 - and to have an incredible World Cup

Manchester City star Erling Haaland has been named VG's top Norwegian athlete for 2025.

It is the fourth time Haaland has won the award.

Haaland said, "Norway is the place where everything started for me, so if people there feel I'm doing something right, it means a lot.

"At the same time, I'm just doing my job – trying to improve me, score goals and make people proud, but it feels special because it comes from my own country."

Haaland is upset that 2025 was not so successful at club level, but he has high hopes for 2026.

"I want to win things with my club, and of course I'm excited in the summer. A World Cup is the biggest thing you can participate in and it will be incredible to do so with Norway.

"But we have to keep calm. There is a lot of work ahead of us and we know exactly what to improve. What I can say is that we believe what we are building and I will give everything to be ready.

"If we do things the right way, we can make it a year that will be remembered," Haaland says.
