Amorim backs out-of-favour Mainoo as Man United’s 'future' amid exit rumours
Ruben Amorim has back midfielder Kobbie Mainoo to be the 'future' of Man United despite his lack of game time and continued exit rumours.
The 20-year-old pushed to leave Man United on loan in the summer in search of regular first team minutes, but had his request quickly rebuffed.
It’s understood that Mainoo will do the same in the upcoming January transfer window, but again, Man United are reluctant to sanction an exit.
Mainoo is currently sidelined with a calf strain but is yet to start a single Premier League game for United, featuring for 212 minutes across his 11 appearances.
Speaking ahead of their Premier League clash with Newcastle on Boxing Day (December 26), Amorim backed Mainoo as the ‘future’ of the club.
"Kobbie Mainoo will have the opportunity, he has all the time.
"He played in different positions - we talked about the position of Casemiro, he can do that. If you play with a three, he can play like we did in the last game with the position of Mason Mount, he can play there.
"He is going to be the future of Manchester United, that is my feeling, he just needs to wait for his chance and everything can change in football in two days."
