PREVIEW: Wolves visit Anfield as Liverpool miss several key players including Isak and Salah
Liverpool target a strong Boxing Day showing against Wolves, who remain winless after 17 Premier League games and face the risk of setting unwanted records.
Liverpool have secured back-to-back Premier League wins for the first time since September, with three consecutive victories in all competitions under Arne Slot. The Reds have excelled during the festive period, winning 17 of their last 20 top-flight matches between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
At Anfield, Liverpool remain unbeaten in 31 of their last 32 league games played between Boxing Day and New Year’s Eve, recording 25 wins and 6 draws. Their only defeat in this period came against Wolves in 2010.
Wolves suffered a 2-0 defeat to Brentford last weekend, extending their winless Premier League streak to 21 games (D3, L18). Only three teams in Premier League history have endured longer runs without a victory.
With just two points from 17 league matches (D2, L15), Wolves risk joining Newport County (1970/71) and Bolton Wanderers (1902/03) as the only teams to go winless in their first 18 top-flight games.
Liverpool have dominated recent encounters, winning 16 of the last 17 league meetings with Wolves. The Reds have scored just two first-half goals in their last ten matches, while 15 of their 17 league games this season were won by the team scoring first.
Wolves’ last seven matches have been level at half-time, six of which were goalless. They have conceded the most and scored the fewest second-half goals in the Premier League this season.
Hugo Ekitik9 has scored five goals in his last three league games for Liverpool, with four coming after half-time. Wolves’ Hwang Hee-chan has netted six of his last eight club goals before half-time.
Liverpool will be without Conor Bradley, Alexander Isak—who faces an extended absence—and Dominik Szoboszlai due to suspension. Wolves missed Toti in their last outing.
Analysts suggest Liverpool are favoured to win without conceding, given their recent form and Wolves’ ongoing struggles.
