Former Real Madrid striker Juka Jovic was spared jail

Former Real Madrid striker Luka Jovic avoided jail time in Serbia after breaking coronavirus isolation rules because he couldn't wait to see his gorgeous model girlfriend, Sofija Milosevic.

The forward flew from Spain to his home country during the height of the pandemic in March 2020, despite being required to quarantine with his teammates. Instead, Jović chartered a private plane to visit Sofija, then 29, in Serbia.

Jović, who turned 28 on Tuesday, December 23, traveled to celebrate his partner’s birthday. Local reports stated he was seen celebrating with her on the streets of Belgrade. He faced intense backlash, and reports even suggested a possible six-month jail sentence for the violation.

Luka Jovic was nearly jailed after visiting his stunning wife, Sofija Milosevic.

Serbian Prime Minister Ana Brnabić criticized his decision to break the rules, saying: "We have the negative example of our football stars who earn millions and have ignored the obligation to self-isolate so they can return home."

At the time, the Serbian government had advised all citizens working abroad not to return from countries with high infection rates. When Jović traveled back, Spain had the fourth-highest death toll in the world.

For breaking the rules, Jović was fined €30,000 (approximately £27,000).

However, before Jović was spared prison, his own father, Milan Jović, suggested that jail time might be an appropriate punishment. "Luka had two coronavirus tests, and both came back negative," he told Marca. "That’s why he thought he could come to Serbia.

"Now it seems like he’s a major criminal. If he has to go to jail, then he goes. I fully support the president and prime minister [for threatening criminal charges], but only if he’s guilty.

"I would back that decision if he had done something wrong, but he arrived in Belgrade and stayed at home.

"[His girlfriend] Sofija was pregnant and couldn’t go out [to celebrate her birthday]. Some photos surfaced of them out having fun, but those were from Spain."

Sofija was pregnant when Jovic visited her.

Sofija was previously in a three-year relationship with footballer Adem Ljajic before they split in 2018. She was also romantically linked to tennis player Viktor Troicki and Croatian forward Ante Rebic.

Later in 2020, the couple welcomed their first child, Aleksej, followed by their second son, Teodor, two years later. Jovic left Real Madrid in 2022, ending a difficult spell at the Santiago Bernabéu.

The 50-cap Serbian international struggled to regain his form during subsequent stints at Fiorentina and AC Milan before joining AEK Athens in the summer.

The couple are still happily together. Sofija posted a heartfelt message on Jović’s birthday, writing: "Happy birthday to you, papa. We are proud of all that you are and all that you accomplish. Your love and support give us security and faith in each new day."
