Barcelona president Laporta eager to secure Flick to new deal

Barcelona president Joan Laporta is keen to open new contract talks with coach Hansi Flick.

Flick, after last season's LaLiga title triumph, has Barca again top of the table heading into the winter break.

With the German currently on a deal to 2027, BILD says Laporta wants to extend that by 12 months.

Both Laporta and sporting director Deco do not want to start next season with Flick having less than a year to run on his contract.

Barca's board would prefer to extend the arrangement by several years, however knowing Flick likes to work year-to-year, they're seeking a compromise with a new 12-month extension to keep all parties satisfied.

Flick's agent Pini Zahavi has already met with Laporta in recent weeks in an effort to kickoff negotiations.
