Providing a seldom-seen look into their personal affairs, the 31-year-old quipped that the lavish gift was the "minimum he could do" after keeping her waiting ten years for a proposal.

The Buenos Aires native remarked to Elle Spain: "It's stunning. It's truly the least he could give me after a ten-year wait.

"To be honest, a proposal was the furthest thing from my mind at that moment. It took a while for me to truly grasp the size of the diamond he presented to me.

"I was in such a state of disbelief that I left the ring in my room and waited until the next day to view it in the natural sunlight."

The couple shares two biological children: eight-year-old Alana and four-year-old Bella.

Additionally, Georgina has played a central role in raising Ronaldo's other children: Cristiano Jr (15), and twins Mateo and Eva (8).

Reflecting on their bond, Georgina noted: "Our connection felt like something much deeper than just physical attraction.

"I wouldn't say I predicted our future, or knew that a decade later we would be raising five children, but I did feel an unexplainable sensation.

"It felt as though our souls connected even before we made eye contact.

"A part of me recognized a part of him, and I knew instantly that this relationship was going to be something entirely distinct and special."

During an interview with Piers Morgan last month, Ronaldo also spoke about the engagement.

The ex-Manchester United icon revealed: "Gio had expressed her desire for a ring.

"It was a dream of hers to have a beautiful diamond, and I finally found the perfect one that she adores.

"A friend provided the ring for me to give to Gio, and then my two daughters walked in and said, 'You're going to give that to Mummy and get married'.

"At that point, I knew the timing was perfect. I decided that now was the right moment, largely inspired by my daughters."

'THE LOVE OF MY LIFE'

Ronaldo further joked: "She kept asking if I was being serious; she simply couldn't believe it."

Regarding the timing, the football legend explained: "Everything happens when it's meant to. Sometimes it takes time to fully realize things.

"I chose to propose now because the moment felt right—not just because she mothered my children, but because she is truly the love of my life.

"At 40 years old, our daily life won't fundamentally change because of a marriage certificate. It's just a wonderful new chapter for me."

The wedding is not expected to take place until after the conclusion of next summer's World Cup, as Ronaldo remains focused on capturing the one major trophy he has yet to win.

The end of his career may follow shortly after, as he admitted to Piers: "It will be a challenge, naturally. Will it be emotional? Yes, I'll likely be in tears."

He concluded with a philosophical outlook: "Every journey must have a start, and every journey eventually reaches its conclusion."
