Bayer Leverkusen slams Real Madrid president Florentino over Xabi treatment
Bayer Leverkusen chief Fernando Carro has taken aim at Real Madrid president Florentino Perez over his handling of coach Xabi Alonso's criticism.
Xabi left Bayer last summer to take the Real Madrid job, but he is now fighting to keep hold of his job amid criticism of his tactics and management of the dressing room.'
Carro, watching from afar, is stunned and told Sky Deutschland: "If the president says that a coach is a necessary evil, if the coach is left alone and is always the one who gets to take the criticism, then the situation is very different compared to the one he had in Leverkusen."
Carro compares to the time in the Bundesliga club, where he believes that Xabi had full support.
"With us, everyone rows in the same direction and we don't leave the coach alone."
At the same time, Carro opened the door for Xabi to return to Leverkusen in the future, should he leave Real Madrid.
"The door is open. If he wants to come back, he can do it at any time," he added.
