Thiago Silva is set to leave Fluminense in the January transfer window despite his World Cup ambitions.

Silva, 41, captained the national team at the 2018 and 2022 World Cups as he established himself as a legend for the national side. He aims to be there in the US, Canada and Mexico next year despite many discussing him nearing retirement.0

"Can you imagine if I end my career with a World Cup title?0

"It would be the absolute dream and the perfect moment to stop."0

However, as reported by Fabrizio Romano, Silva is set to leave his current side and will be a free agent merely months before the World Cup begins.0

“Thiago Silva has decided to LEAVE Fluminense and try new chapter as a free agent ahead of 2026 World Cup.0

“Thiago will be available with immediate effect from January.0

“His priority is a return to Europe, as @geglobo reports. Talks on.”0

The veteran defender mentioned his longing to be closer to his family, who live in London, where his sons play in Chelsea’s youth academy which could be a motivation to move back to Europe next month.0

Reports state that club intends to talk to the player in the coming days and will try to convince him to stay at least until July 2026. However, his family ties may push him to leave the side and seek a club closer to his family in what could be a potential Premier League return.0
