William Saliba forced to "modify" the way he runs as he seeks swift Arsenal return

Arsenal defender William Saliba has been forced to change how he runs after suffering an ankle injury.

The 24-year-old has missed Arsenal’s last four games in what has been a huge loss for manager Mikel Arteta, who has also had to deal with defensive injuries to Gabriel and Jurrien Timber as the title race heats up.0

Earlier this month, Arteta admitted that his twisted ankle was the result of “a really random and unlucky action” before identifying the latest issue as “bizarre” as Arsenal fans waited patiently for more news.0

Now, speaking on ahead of Arsenal’s clash against bottom of the league Wolves this weekend, Arteta has confirmed the extent of the injury and how Saliba is coping behind the scenes.0

"It was something quite small," he said. "It came from an ankle injury that he had, and then he started to modify the way he was running and he started to overload an area, which is something common. 0

“But at some point he was uncomfortable continuing to be able to train and play and we had to stop it. He looks better but we'll have to wait and see if it's enough for him to be able to train with the team."0

"We have to wait and see. Yesterday we didn’t train, so we have an extra day between this afternoon, let’s see if he can be available or not. It remains the same. If you asked me for the Everton game, I think he will be fit; for tomorrow, I don’t know."0

Jurrien Timber has covered for Saliba in his absence, and Arteta revealed whether he could make the Wolves clash. 0

“It’s a matter of days. But whether it’s tomorrow or not, we’ll see.”0

The Gunners managed to get back to winning ways in midweek as they scored three at Club Brugge in what was an excellent performance from Arteta’s side who will hope to continue that form against Wolves.0
